Fostering – Saying Goodbye Blog.

Most foster children move on from their foster families eventually. Either returning to their birth families or to another placement.

This is to achieve a state of permanence. However, sometimes it will be because a placement simply is not working. Foster parents need to accept that there may be situations where they are unable to provide a child the care they need.

Somebody else’s skills and experience may be better suited to helping that child.

Whatever the circumstances it can be an emotionally difficult period for foster carers. Sadness at seeing them go will often be blended with joy at seeing them achieve permanence.

It is important to be open about these feelings and discuss them with your support network.
