How to raise a confident foster child.

Confidence is key in overcoming adversity. It is understandable that some foster children will not be as confident as their peers. Being placed in the foster care system can have a negative effect on a child’s self-esteem.

Through encouragement and positive reinforcement, it is possible to inspire confidence within the children in your care. It is also important to ensure that foster children feel as loved and supported as their peers.

Reassure foster children that their anxieties are not negligible and encourage them to try as many new experiences as possible. Teach them to not be defined by their labels or their situations. Gradually they will realise their self-worth and their uniqueness.

This will help in their progression through life and development towards adulthood.
