Should Foster Agencies focus more on earnings?
A study from The Fostering Network in 2016 found that the UK needed an extra 9,070 fostering families to meet demand. We desperately need more foster carers.
Currently most fostering agencies advertise fostering as a sacrifice and focus on supporting children in need.
But with more and more people making foster care their source of full-time employment, agencies could have more success if they advertised it as a career opportunity.
There is a clear career-pathway established, with courses and further training available to develop your education. If more people saw foster care as a career, as well as a vocation, it would appeal to a wider range of people.
