Childhood depression.

The UK is currently experiencing a mental health crisis. Rates of depression amongst children and young adults is soaring. Children in care are particularly vulnerable to mental health issues. It is important to be able to recognise the signs of depression early.

Childhood depression may be present if a child is in a persistently sad or irritable mood, if they have undergone a severe change in weight or if they no longer enjoy things that they used to.

Of course, depression is an extremely nuanced issue and most children will be reluctant to seek help. It is important to discuss such issues openly and without prejudice. If you can agree that there may be a problem it is important to seek specialist medical support as soon as possible.
