Keeping your foster child safe at home Blog.

Unfortunately, accidents do happen. As a foster parent you must ensure your home is as safe as possible. Make sure all sharp implements, such as scissors or knives, are out of reach of children or in a draw with a childproof latch.

Similarly, make sure laundry detergents, cleaning products and medicines are not easily accessible. Also ensure that your home is equipped with functioning smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

It is impossible to be monitoring foster children all the time. It is useful to educate foster children about their own safety as soon as possible. For example, allow them to help you in the kitchen whilst teaching them about how to correctly use appliances.
